You All Rock Hard Right Now, Me . . . Not So Much

Hi all,

You all rock by sending in so much great and original art that you and your friends have created. I've been lagging in posting due to do some ambitious and really actually egotistical over-scheduling on my part, but, I promise next week there will be a slew of updates, including some work by Wesleyan alums!

Keep this on your radar screen and keep emailing us your work!

Music: Benjamin Bernstein '10

So this is a demo of an idea that I've been turning over for a few days. Since it's miles away from done, I thought I'd use this as a forum for suggestion. I think I'd eventually like to turn this into a song for my band, Decora. I also think it would sound alot better with live drums. There are two samples used here, a bell hit from a Dan Deacon song, and some pitch bent "ooohs" from the Dirty Projectors.

Music: Max Horwich '08

Max Horwich, recording under the name Sewing Machines, has recently finished an EP entitled "More Songs about Weather and Cigarettes," featuring 3 original compositions and covers of Tom Waits and Daniel Johnston. Fun fact: the electric guitar used on this recording was salvaged from a burned down house (you can hear the charred woodgrain). Download the whole thing here.

Audio: Never Let Go (Waits)

Fishing Waves: I was craving to use my sampler, so I sampled parts from Wave by Antonio Carlos Jobim and Fish in the Millpond by the Watson Family. Everything is sampled except for the drum beat.

Catskill Instrumental: I live in the Catskills, and this is an instrumental. Solo bass, no overdubs.

Music: Ben Seretan '10 and Ben Bernstein '10

Ben Seretan wrote this song while meditating in Vermont. Ben Bernstein sang a little bit and produced it. "Look at your hands, aren't they fucking weird?"

Three pictures I took with some junky digital camera in 2005.

1. "Life is What You Make It"
2. "Don't Devour My Face"
3. "Please Devour My Face"

"Tokushima hints at being very hot at night. Even at my jet-lagged earliest, lilting down the stairs in the quiet pre-dawn, there is no lull to be found. Instead, I am greeted by the twin muffled glows of a green-lit mossy aquarium and my host father’s morning cigarette, lazy between his fingers as he leans against the counter, yet to turn on a light. The air remains thick and muggy like I could choke on it."
